Svante Pääbo, foreign member of the Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters, has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discoveries concerning the genomes of extinct hominins and human evolution. Svante Pääbo was elected foreign member of the Society in 2002, and he held the festive oration at the 175-jubilee.
